YPG report suggests Turkey and Islamist allies could be using chemical weapons in Afrin

nsnbc : The Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Afrin report that Turkish military forces or forces backed by Turkey  repeatedly have targeted villages as well as YPG and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions with “unusual” weapons that produced white smoke, causing severe coughing with those affected.

On February 3, as Turkish forces was shelling the village of Saria in Afrin’s Bulbul district, the YPG reports, white smoke raised as the result of shelling.

The YPG stressed that the village is located in the southern countryside of Bulbul district. Residents, so the YPG, suffered heavy coughing after inhaling that white smoke.

The People’s Protection Units (YPG) are bringing this to the attention of international media, stressing that the Turkish military as well as Turkey-backed Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra terrorists have repeatedly targeted cities, human settlements, as well as YPG and SDF positions in the region, using “unknown weapons”.

The YPG’s Press Office released a video, reportedly recorded on Saturday, February 3, 2018, showing above mentioned white smoke raising from Saria village.

nsnbc international could not immediately verify whether chemical substances were used in weaponized, military grade or improvised form. However, it is worth noting that Turkey-backed insurgents including Free Syrian Army (FSA) units since 2012, and Jabhat al-Nusra and other Al-Qaeda affiliates, have repeatedly and consistently been linked to the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian theater. It is also worth noting that vast majority of incidents involving chemical weapons in Syria, reported by nsnbc international, implicate either Turkey or Saudi Arabia.
