THE gunman who shot and killed a Virginia Tech police officer Thursday before turning the gun on himself was identified today as Ross Ashley, a 22-year-old student from nearby Radford University.
Ashley, of Partlow, Virginia, was enrolled part-time at Radford.
He was also identified as the man who stole a car at gunpoint Wednesday in Radford, Virginia State Police said in a statement.
But police also said they were still working to establish a motive in the killing of Virginia Tech Police Officer Deriek Crouse.
“At this time, there remains no prior connection or contact between Ashley … and the Virginia Tech Officer he killed,” the statement said.
