The demonstrators said Washington’s policies are a major source of trouble for Yemen.
They also condemned US assassination drone attacks on Yemeni soil held Washington responsible for the unrest in their country. The demonstrators chanted slogans against US and Israel.
Meanwhile, thousands of Yemenis took to the streets in several other cities including the capital, Sana’a, Taizz, and Sa’ada, to demand the prosecution of former ruler Ali Abdullah Saleh and his aides over the killing of thousands of Yemenis during the revolution.
Yemeni demonstrators also expressed their happiness with the election of Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi as Egypt’s new president.
Yemenis are holding almost daily protests demanding Saleh’s prosecution and removal of his loyalists from power positions since he resigned in February after nearly a year of mass street protests against his rule under a US-backed power transfer deal in return for immunity. Saleh ruled Yemen for 33 years.
