Wrigley has pulled their gum called “Alert” on Friday due to an on-going investigation by the FDA or Food and Drug Administration. There’s currently no word on when Wrigley plans to bring the gum back into the fold and make it available to the public.

With concerns over the growing use of caffeine in America (Wrigley’s new gum is caffeinated), Wrigley has decided to pull their gum from production and any store shelves while the FDA launches a general investigation on how caffeine affects children’s bodies and minds.
In a statement, the president of Wrigley North America said that the company will now pause production, sales, and marketing for “Alert” in an effort to “give the FDA time to develop a new regulatory framework for the addition of caffeine to food and drinks.”
The president, Casey Keller, says he’s talked to the FDA and has made his decision after learning about the Food and Drug’s Administration’s “appreciation” for the well being of young people when it comes to caffeine and their health.
“After discussions with the FDA, we have a greater appreciation for its concern about the proliferation of caffeine in the nation’s food supply,” Keller said. “There is a need for changes in the regulatory framework to better guide the consumers and the industry about the appropriate level and use of caffeinated products.”
Wrigley is the world’s largest gum manufacturer. Plans were made to charge $2.99 for the new pack of gum, and to target it not at children, but at adults in their 20s and 30s.
