World’s fastest lift will travel 3,281ft a minute

In terms of safety, fine ceramic is one material used in the safety gears due
to its resistance to heat, shock and abrasion, with a hydraulic oil buffer
acting as a shock absorber at the base.

Mitsubishi will be putting the new technology to the test by creating all 106
lifts to be installed in the new Shanghai Tower project, which will be
completed in 2014.

The new tower will be home to the world’s fastest elevators as a result of
their new technology, exceeding all existing records by travelling as fast
as 59 feet per second.
