A 25-year-old woman cried for help with severe burns after she was set alight in her apartment in Perth’s eastern suburbs.
Police found Dana Vulin after they were called to a house fire at the luxury Ceresa River Apartments block overlooking the Swan River in Rivervale at about 6.30am WST yesterday, Perth Now reports.
The woman was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with burns to her face and upper torso covering 30 per cent of her body.
It is the third time a woman has been set alight in Perth in the past few months.
A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said they found the woman after hearing her scream for help.
“I saw a girl distressed at the front door and it appeared that she had been burnt — I just said to her I’ve got to get you into the shower,” they said.
The neighbour told police she was “smouldering” when she screamed for help.
Detective senior sergeant Chris Adams said the woman’s apartment did not appear to have been broken into and her attacker may have fled along the waterfront.
“This seems to be a pre-meditated approach,” he said.
Sergeant Adams said a number of witnesses heard a disturbance that morning and police were appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
The woman underwent surgery yesterday and is in a critical but stable condition.
Residents were evacuated from the block after fire alarms were set off and firefighters told them there had been a small unit fire.
