A woman has been killed by a hit-and-run driver on the NSW mid-north coast.
Emergency crews were called to Hills Street in Port Macquarie shortly after 6pm (AEST) on Wednesday when a driver saw the woman lying by the side of the road.
The woman died at the scene from head injuries, despite the bystander’s attempts to help her.
Sergeant Richard Hall said the woman was hit by a car which had failed to stop and help her.
“We don’t know who this woman is as she wasn’t carrying any identification with her at the time,” he said in a statement.
“She is aged in her 30s or 40s, caucasian in appearance and was wearing dark clothing.”
