MELBOURNE police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body in Caulfield South early this morning.
Emergency services were called to a back laneway near Glenhuntly Rd just after 4am (AEDT) where they found a woman’s body.
It’s believed the woman, who was aged between 25 and 35, was found naked and bleeding in a lane between Royal Pde and Imperial Pde.
The lane runs parallel to several shops in Glenhuntly Rd.
The woman with dark shoulder-length hair and a tattoo of an infinity symbol on her right hand was yet to be identified, a police spokeswoman said.
Residents in Royal Pde said they were shocked to discover a crime scene near their houses.
Joseph Semaan, who has lived in the area for 38 years, said he didn’t hear anything.
“It’s scary and sad, very sad,” Mr Semaan said.
“I saw a police car in the morning, about 5am. I didn’t take much notice.”
He said the neighborhood was “very nice”.
Another local said she was shocked to see police in the street when she came home from nightshift at about 7am.
“I have two teenage daughters and they are a bit freaked out,” the woman said.
“I have lived here for 17 years and I have never heard of anything like that.”
