Woman dragged by car for 100 metres

A young woman is in hospital after being dragged 100 metres by a car when she tried to grab the keys out of the ignition.

Paramedics attended to the woman, 22, who sustained grazes to her body and is now in The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.

Police say the woman was following an allegedly stolen car and when the vehicle stopped at Pound Road, Dandenong South about 8.30pm (AEDT) on Tuesday she took the opportunity to try to take the keys from the ignition.

But the the driver wound up the window trapping her arm and then drove off along the South Gippsland Highway.

The car was driven for 100 metres when it stopped and the driver dumped the now unconscious woman on the side of the highway.

The car was later found burned out at Cranbourne West in Melbourne’s southeast.
