A Geelong woman sentenced to jail after being repeatedly caught shoplifting has blamed weight loss pills for her behaviour.
Olivia Pamvouxoglou, 23, pleaded guilty to her fourth and fifth shoplifting charges and driving on a suspended license in Geelong Magistrates Court yesterday, the Geelong Advertiser reports.
Pamvouxoglou told the court she started having mood changes after taking the diet pills but did not tell her doctor because she wanted to keep taking them.
The 23-year-old and a co-accused went to Myer Westfield Geelong on November 7 with eight empty Myer bags and walked to Sunglasses Hut, police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Geoff Lamb told the court.
“The co-offender placed a $360 pair of sunglasses on her head and the pair made their way to Glassons where Pamvoxoglou stole clothing, placing it inside an empty Myer bag,” Constable Lamb said.
The court heard Pamvouxoglou was caught driving without a seatbelt while suspended on July 30, bringing the total times she had been charged for driving suspended to three.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan convicted the woman on all counts and sentenced her to 28 days jail suspended for six months.
She was also fined $850 and her driver’s license was suspended for two months.
