A WOMAN was sexually assaulted and a man stabbed during a break-and-enter in western Sydney.
Police were called to a unit block in Macquarie Road at Penrith at 4.30am (AEST) today after reports that a man forced his way into the home through a bathroom window.
A 20-year-old woman, who was at home with her four-year-old daughter, told police she had heard noises outside the unit and sent a text message to her father to raise the alarm.
The woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by the man.
A short time later, the woman’s 49-year-old father arrived at the unit where he became involved in an altercation with the intruder, police said.
The victim’s father sustained stab wounds during the altercation and was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment.
The alleged intruder was assessed by paramedics on-site before being taken to Westmead Hospital for further treatment to a suspected head injury.

He remains under police guard in hospital.
The 20-year-old woman was taken to Nepean Hospital for medical assessment. The four-year-old girl was not injured.
Strike Force Pondage was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
