A key witness in the Sophie Tuscan du Plantier murder case has told TV3 that Gardai forced her to perjure herself in court in order to incriminate Ian Bailey.

Marie Farrell, a local shopkeeper, who initially said that she had seen Bailey at Kealfadda bridge close to where Ms. du Plantier had her summer house retracted her evidence in 2005.

Farrell claimed that she was fed a story by Gardai and made false statements at their command.

She was in fear of her life of them she said.

The confession made the Garda investigation inept.

Farrell’s solicitor Frank Buttimer then made contact with the solicitor of Ian Bailey about the disclosure.

When Gardai eventually handed a 2,000-page file on Bailey to the Director of Public Posecutions, it was decided there was insufficient evidence to prosecute.
