Independent MP Tony Windsor maintains he is unlikely to support the federal government’s bid to means test the private health insurance rebate.
The government looks almost certain to get the reforms through the parliament after a four-year battle with the help of the Greens’ Adam Bandt and independents Rob Oakeshott and Andrew Wilkie.
But fellow crossbencher Tony Windsor remains against the plan.
“It’s highly unlikely I’d support it,” he told Network Ten on Sunday.
“Until you actually see the final legislation, and my vote could be significant, I’m not going to make a definitive ruling on it now.
“But if it is as we expect it to be I won’t be supporting it.”
Mr Windsor says Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s refusal to commit to repealing the reforms if they do pass is an obvious indication he will leave them in place should he win government.
Under the reforms, the government will means test the rebate for individuals earning more than $80,000 a year and families earning more than $160,000.
