First, religion is the sop of the sheep.
Religion is used to herd the sheep where the jackals want them to go, usually straight through the slaughterhouse doors.
Spirituality and religion are two very different things.
Spirituality is a walk with the Creator God.
Religion is superstitions with which the sheep try to keep their endless fears at bay.
Religions are cults.
When I speak of God, I am not speaking of a man like creature with ESP and a magic wand so he can give the sheep everything they demand of him.
God is a human word used to express what is beyond their comprehension.
The gods are not to be confused with the Creator God.
If one choses to use the word Universe instead of God, or Nature, it matters not to me.
God is the Universe and Nature.
The three are the same and inseparable.
In the Norse era, it was much the same as now in that there were the masses who would not pay the price to gain understanding of knowledge leading to wisdom.
The sheep have always been with us in every culture and era.
I assure you when Yeshua the Judian warrior and spiritual leader which the Romans renamed Jesus, a Spanish name, after murdering him for trying to kick the Romans out of Judea, called the masses sheep, that WAS NOT a term of endearment.
But in the Viking ear there were no religions such as Roman Christianity, Islam or Judaism.
The body the spirit resided in at the moment was understood to be the temple of God, as it was God which put the spark of life into the spirit and soul which was using that body at that time to exist in this physical world.
A Norseman understood as God was in them, they needed no “priest” to intercede between the individual and God when one wanted to commune with God.
Nature, the forrest, the seashore, a beautiful meadow filled with brilliantly colored flowers and getting away from the noise of others was their “church”.
All religions which require the individual to do as they say to do or suffer “anger” and “punishment” from God are false.
I have a friend who studied theology in a Roman Catholic university while I studied theology in a Southern baptist university.
We both agree if you got the top theologians from any branch of the Roman Christianity (Protestants are Roman Christians, just splinter groups of the Vatican), they would agree on a few major points of the belief then the arguments would begin as all religious writings are subject to personal interpretation.
The Norsemen were the closest to understanding the true God of any era I have traveled.
The warriors who used animals as their totem is widespread through history and not limited to the Vikings.
My totem is the wolf.
The lion wants to rule everything around him.
I have NEVER been a sheep.
I grew tired of sheep herding long ago.
This friend and I who discuss theology have traveled time and this world together.
Neither of us wants to be in charge of the sheep any longer.
We have grown tired of stepping in sheep shit.
We have grown tired of the sheep helping the jackals murder us, persecute us for trying to keep the sheep from marching in lockstep off cliffs and through the slaughterhouse doors.
We leave the sheep to the jackals the sheep love as the jackals tell them the lies the sheep love to hear.
The young alfa wolf fights to lead the pack, get the best females, and try to keep the pack strong and safe.
With age, often comes wisdom.
The ole wolf leaves the pack to the young ambitious alfa types, and with a select few fellow wolves goes deep in the forrest of life to get away from the bleating of the sheep and the yelping of the pack.
It is in solitude one finds God.
The Ole Dog!
