When ’90s Bands Attack: Ben Folds Five, No Doubt and Green Day Return

Children of the 90s, it’s time to reach for those plaid shirt and ripped jeans. In a perfect blend of kismet, ’90s radio icons Ben Folds Five, No Doubt, and Green Day today announced new albums hitting stores this fall.

It’s enough to warm our hearts and get us pining for the days of pop-up videos and parachute pants.

Ben Ben Folds Five, the band behind the watershed album Whatever and Ever Amen, has announced they are reuniting 13 years after recording their last album together The Unauthorized Biography Of Reinhold Messner.

Original band mates Ben Folds (piano), Robert Sledge (bass) and Darren Jessee (drums) will release The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind on September 18th.

The album will also be available on crowd-funding site PledgeMusic, with a portion of sales going to support music education and therapy therapy.

The band will kick off a North American tour in New York on September 14 to mark the release of the album.


“Settle Down” is the first single from No Doubt’s forthcoming album Push and Shove and the group’s first since 2001′s Rock Steady. The band went their seperate ways in 2004 after front woman Gwen Stefani announced her decision to pursue a solo career, releasing hit singles like “Hollaback Girl” and “The Sweet Escape”. Push and Shove will be released on September 25 but you can check out the new single “Settle Down” below. The video will premiere tonight on Vevo.

Not to be outdone, Green Day has announced not one but three albums aptly titled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tres! to be released this fall. The official video for “Oh Love”, the fist single from ¡Uno! is a trip and will remind old school fans of the band of the Magic Eye series of 3D books. Green Day’s trio of albums will be released on September 25, November 13 and January 15.
