Since its launch in 2011, Office 365 has become a hugely popular software service.
From 2011 until now, it has added many new features and is now accessible to everyone, not just businesses.
Office 365 uses rolling updates which mean instead of a new version every couple of years, Microsoft roll out small updates during the year.
The most recent update in April 2017, added some new functionality as well as other improvements.
To-Do List
One of the new apps added to Office 365 is To-Do Planner. This new app is designed by the same people who created Wunderlist whom Microsoft acquired a few years ago.
It will also integrate with Outlook so that any tasks will appear on your To-Do as well. You can create a list for any job and colour code it to make it easily recognisable.
If you are using other devices such as Android or iPhone, you can also download the To-Do app so that you can synchronise across all platforms. Because of this synchronisation, Microsoft has ensured that To-Do will be secure both while in transit and when stationery.
Outlook Customer Manager
This feature was rolled out in November 2016. However, it is now available to all business users globally. It is a CRM system for Outlook that allows the scheduling of meetings with customers. One interesting feature is the ability to delegate meeting scheduling to Cortana.
Office 365 Threat Intelligence
Available as a separate licence, Threat Intelligence is a smart addition that collates threat information from many sources including industry reports and Microsoft’s data to give you a heads up if your team are being targeted by a virus or malware.
Other Additions
Some other updates have been rolled out. They are mainly tweaks to existing applications and other small additions.
- Guest Management Controls have been added so you can add and remove existing guests to your business group.
- Outlook for iOS, Android and Mac has had Group Access added. This now allows the feature to be used across all platforms.
- A great new security feature is Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) Safe Link. It will automatically scan any hyperlinks received in the same way that it does on emails.
- Future Office 365 updates will be changing to match those of Windows 10. ProPlus versions will get two updates instead of three. Support has been extended from 12 to 18 months. This is to help support staff who deal with a lot of the updates.
Apart from the new To-Do application, most of the updates from April have added more functionality and functionality across platforms.
If you are a business and are looking to migrate over to Office 365, there are advantages to using an outside company to manage the licences and support. This is because there are certain shortfalls when it comes to office 365 archive features. With additional support, you can use cloud-based archiving to keep copies of your emails and IM messages.
