“In order to thwart popular movements in the region, Western powers are plotting seditious [scenarios] to sow discord among the regional countries,” Mehmanparast said during a meeting with senior Egyptian journalists in the capital Tehran on Wednesday.

He added that the wave of Islamic Awakening in the region has worried the Zionist regime of Israel and its supporters and said, “Creating ethnic and religious conflicts [among regional nations] is the major component of such seditions,” he added.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman also pointed to the status of the Iranian and Egyptian nations in the Muslim world as well as their historical commonalities and said relations between the two sides can be “fully revived” with the formation of a popular government in Egypt.
