‘West in media war against Syria’

Dr. Webster Griffin Tarpley said news channels such as “Al-Arabiya, Aljazeera, BBC, CNN, Fox, France 24, Future TV and MTV” are involved as the “external part” of the operation against Syria.

“They (Western powers) have got Nilesat and Arabsat apparently willing to play along with NATO,” Tarpley stated in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday. “This is a huge operation.”

The American author made the comments on the day when US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton claimed that the situation in Syria was “spiraling toward civil war.”

Clinton also called on Russia to pressure the Syrian government. However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated on Wednesday that Moscow rejects the use of force against Damascus.

On June 12, the Syrian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying, “The US administration is pushing forth with its flagrant interference in Syria’s internal affairs and its backing of armed terrorist groups.”

“US statements distort the truth and what is happening on the ground while encouraging armed terrorist groups to carry out more massacres… throughout the country,” the statement added.

The anti-Syria Western governments blame Damascus for the past months of turmoil in the Arab country. However, the Syrian government has repeatedly said foreign-sponsored “saboteurs and terrorists” are responsible for the deadly unrest which has resulted in the death of many people, including Syrian security forces.
