“I believe that the United States like Europe is [at] the end of a long period of happiness, well it is the end of a social pact, in the United States, and in Europe even more, we lived for fifty years in a very good condition. And it is being created a middle-class to the very good level of life, wealth enough, very high level of consumption, and now we are in a completely new situation where our whole trend of life is changing,” Giulietto Chiesa told Press TV on Thursday.
“I believe it is finally over. To return to the past idea of growth is absolutely out, out of any reasonable idea. It is a very simple situation we have been the dominators of the world for a long time [for] two century [centuries], two and a half century [centuries] and now it is finished now there is China, there is India, Brazil, Turkey, Iran, and Indonesia. They are growing, they are powerful now,” said Chiesa, who is also an Italian politician and journalist.
The former member of the European Parliament went on to say that democracy really no longer exists in the West and a small group of people are controlling the countries.
“Democracy is finished in the west, democracy is ceremonial, is a fiction,” Chiesa added.
“They are less than one tenth of one percent, that means there is a little number of people have in their hands all the power of the western world,” he said.
Chiesa noted that the people in the West will not comply with the new situations in their crisis-hit countries and will struggle to change the political status in their homelands.
“There is a new generation of people [who] would not accept the situation and they would fight, they would fight as in Wall Street without any leadership,” said Chiesa.
