The demonstrators took to the streets in Ramallah on Tuesday, three days after Palestinian Authority security forces cracked down on a June 30 demonstration against a meeting between acting Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz that had previously been planned for July 1.
A senior Palestinian official, whose name was not mentioned in the reports, said on June 30 that the meeting had been postponed to a later date.
Issam Baker, a member of the Palestinian People’s Party, told Press TV on Tuesday, “We are here to condemn the suppression used by the security forces against the demonstrators.”
“Freedom of assembly is guaranteed by law. We reject any attacks on the dignity of the Palestinians and condemn the violation of our rights to freedom of expression and assembly,” Baker added.
The protesters on Tuesday also called for an end to negotiations with the Israeli regime.
Another participant in the demonstration said the protesters “try to convey a message that the negotiations process that has been going on for 20 years has not brought the Palestinians closer to their rights.”
