On Friday evening, explosions were heard and a huge fire broke out in the area of a weapons depot, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency.
Earlier in the day, two soldiers and one passerby were injured when rival factions from the Sunni neighborhood of Bab al-Tebbaneh and the Alawi neighborhood of Jebal Mohsen of Tripoli fired rocket-propelled grenades at each other.
After the incidents, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati told the head of the army to “take necessary measures to halt these events” in the city.
The attacks occurred following Friday prayers when residents in Bab al-Tebbaneh organized mass demonstrations against the Syrian government, which angered the Alawi residents of Jebal Mohsen.
