Whether it’s offering some uplifting advice, kind words, or a helping hand, there are numerous ways all of us can create some sort of positive change on the planet.
Sasa Pejcic is the man you see in the video below. He runs an animal sanctuary in Serbia where hundreds of stray or abandoned dogs live together in one large open space. What’s even more astounding is the fact that he knows how each dog arrived at the shelter, their names, and their personalities.
This is one out of many great examples showing how much one person can accomplish with passion behind him. That being said, helping someone cross the street, or lending a helping hand when the moment provides is very significant, even if you feel it is not.
Each dog at this sanctuary is formerly homeless, or from neglectful homes, which is why this is such a great place. Healing takes places here; the dogs eventually learn that they are loved and cared for, which makes this shelter a truly transformational home for them.
It’s not an easy task, as the shelter relies on donations; Pejcic and his 6 volunteers are constantly on the go. When Pejcic first started out, he was getting food for the dogs from local bakers and slaughterhouses, but that didn’t work for too long. Now, the shelter needs approximately $5,000 to $6,000 euros for their 400-500 dogs every single month.
According to BI Times:
“The battle to rescue stray dogs, which began in 2008, grew as people began bringing him abandoned pets that they found and the number of those ill-fated animals rose to 60, leading Pejcic to move them to the current shelter.”
There are hopes for the city to step in and help out with the project.
“I am confident that the city will help us to find, by the end of the year, a suitable location, a lasting solution to continue our activities.” – Ana Mitrovic, shelter volunteer (source)
Since opening, the shelter has managed to find homes for 250 dogs.
To help to raise awareness for the shelter, The Harmony Fund, an American animal rescue organization, posted a video of the pups happily playing on Oct. 16, linking to a donation page.
