The loss of a loved one is never an easy experience. It becomes even more difficult when that loved one is your seven month old child.
This was the tragic occurrence that Heather Clark had to go through in 2013 when her seven month old, Lukas, passed away. Despite being overwhelmed with heartbreak, Heather made the empowering decision to donate her son’s organs, in hopes that they might make a difference in the lives of other families in need.
Lukas’ organs have done just that, helping to save three lives, including that of Jordan Drake, a little girl who was born with a congenital heart defect. Without a donor, Jordan, much like Lukas, would have faced a tragic ending far too soon. Thankfully, Heather’s decision changed the course of her life for the better.
Now, more than three years later, Heather has been given the opportunity to meet Jordan, as well as her mother, Esther, and to hear the working heartbeat of her late child. The entire experience is shown in this very touching video put together by CNN:
Back in May of last year, I put together another article featuring a powerful video that an organ transplant group out of Argentina created in hopes of sparking more post-mortem organ donations. According to the National Kidney Foundation, in the United States alone there are said to be over 120,000 people awaiting lifesaving organ transplants.
My hope is that by sharing this powerful video, we may all be further inspired to at least consider the option of organ donation. As we saw in the case of Heather and her son Lukas, what started as a tragedy was transformed into a lifesaving and heartwarming experience that has certainly helped to ease the suffering of losing her son, all while saving the life of another child in need.
