Rabbi Manis Friedman |
A famous Chabad, Lubavitch, Rabbi and lecturer, is being sued, after he continuously downplayed the negativity of children being sexually abused.
Rabbi Manis Friedman, is the older brother of famous Jewish singer Avraham Fried. Friedman is a famous lecturer, who recorded many of his lectures and then uploaded it to Youtube.
On some of his Youtube videos he was heard speaking lightly about sex abuse, as if it was no big deal and victims are just overreacting.
According to reports, Friedman, said “that not reciting a blessing after eating cake is worse than being sexually abused.”
In another YouTube video, in which Friedman, is talking to male students, when someone asked Friedman, about telling a girlfriend about being sexually abused Friedman, responded: “Do you have to tell her you once had diarrhea? It’s embarrassing, but nobody’s business.”
In yet another video, where Friedman was speaking to girls, one girl whose family came from Russia, spoke about being sexually abused to which Friedman responded: “You think you were the only one molested? You think your mother and grandmother back in Russia, made it through their teenage years without being molested?”
These comments are outrages and terrible. It almost seems like he approves of sexually abusing children.
Manny Waks, who is an abuse victim himself, founded the Tzedek advocacy group to help Jewish victims of sex abuse. After hearing the offensive and outrageous comments from Friedman, Waks, filed a lawsuit against Friedman, in a Jewish court, called Beth Din.
Waks, claims that “Friedman, is doing untold damage to the entire Jewish community. As a global leader, he is damaging the reputation of the Jewish community. His words can also have a negative effect on victims and survivors of child sexual abuse and their families.” Walks said.
Mr. Waks, wants the Jewish court to order the rabbi to apologize and retract his statements, he should stop slamming sex abuse victims and the rabbi should be removed from his leadership position.
