Liberal National Party leader Campbell Newman says he would have been in strife years ago if Labor claims about his integrity and financial interests were true.
Mr Newman has again dismissed a Labor campaign targeting his credibility and financial interests, and those of his family, as smear.
The campaign refers to Campbell’s web of interests, and questions whether decisions he and his council took when he was Brisbane lord mayor benefited his family.
“The bottom line is it is really hard to fight people who will do or say anything,” he told Zinc Radio in Townsville on Wednesday.
“If it was such a big deal, if it was a problem … well I would have been in a lot of trouble a long time ago.
“It is a deliberate campaign to have a go at me. So I just urge people to see it for what it is.
“In this campaign we are not going to go around throwing mud at them. We want a positive campaign … we don’t want to engage in this sort of nonsense.”
