Exclusive footage by Press TV shows that Homs now resembles a ghost town with empty streets and deserted homes, while its Joret al-Shayyah neighborhood has witnessed the most violence with armed groups being involved in street fighting.
The footage also shows how the armed groups fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad have taken over the houses of the civilians and turned them into the corridors for their street battles.
The Arab country has been the scene of unrest since mid-March 2011. Many people, including security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.
The armed groups reportedly kidnapped dozens of civilians earlier and released them in bomb-laden cars, they then detonated the bombs at army checkpoints, turning the hostages into unwitting bombers.
On Friday, the armed gangs killed 26 civilians in the northern city of Aleppo. According to the Syrian government, the rebels shot dead the victims execution style and then mutilated their bodies.
The armed groups in Syria have been supported by the United States and its regional allies including Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Analysts say that these countries are using every possible way to accomplish their objective of regime change in Syria.
