Video: Share your warmth with Palestinian refugees this winter

At a time when our country is struggling to understand the condition and political meaning of Middle East refugees in the Middle East, here are two moving videos from the UN Relief and Works Agency that show the human connectedness of all of us to Palestinian refugees who are struggling to stay warm this winter…

I have visited some of these camps. Conditions are often rudimentary. Now winter is coming; and if you are a refugee the conditions in the camps become truly unbearable. Especially if you are in Gaza or Syria… and you don’t have a house.

The UN Relief and Works Agency has been a crucial provider of Palestinian refugees’ needs for decades and today it is in financial crisis. It has a deficit of $81 million going into next year. At a time of rising extremism and massive refugee flows into Europe, you’d think a fully funded URNWA delivering a wide range of services in the Middle East would be an essential part of the international response.

Consider: with so many governments deciding to bomb Syria, who is talking about the “human development” response? That’s what UNRWA stands for; but almost no one is addressing this concern in this season.
