In the footage a black-veiled woman gave an account of a killing spree by
forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.
“Security men beat us, burnt the children, the observers did not come,
Assad’s men came with their weapons from the south. They said we were armed
gangs, but we’re not.”
“They beat the men until they had killed them. They hit them with sticks.
Nobody is left,” she said.
A government statement on the state-run news agency SANA said “an armed
terrorist group” killed nine women and children before Hama authorities
were called and killed the attackers.
Activists said the Sunni hamlet is surrounded by Alawite villages. Alawites
are an offshoot of Shiite Islam and Assad is a member of the sect, while the
opposition is dominated by Sunnis.
