Don’t Try This at Home!
We recently wrote about Nissan’s intention to break a speed record in reverse at the Goodwood hillclimb track (not a straight line, as you can see in the video above). Well, mission accomplished. Successive attempts broke the record more than once:
“Over the weekend, the Nissan LEAF set the record as the fastest car over a measured mile in reverse. Driven by professional stunt driver, Terry Grant, the Nissan LEAF raced backwards up the famous Goodwood hillclimb course at the Festival of Speed, covering the distance in 1m 37.02s at an average speed of 88.5km/h.
After setting an initial record on Friday, Terry then broke it 5 times”
Of course, it’s a publicity stunt. But if it makes a few more people consider an electric car over a gasoline one, why not? I’d rather see more people walk, bike, and take transit, but as long as there are cars around, they should be electric and powered by electricity from clean sources.
