Last week the NYPD live-streamed the crushing of dozens of dirt bikes and motorcycles. Why did the police destroy these perfectly good vehicles? Because they were being operated illegally. Police Commissioner Bill Bratton referred to the owners as, “nitwits not even wearing helmets”.
From his statement he obviously thinks that it’s OK to use the force of government to remove people’s property from their possession and destroy it, because it has been outfitted or was used in a manner they disagreed with.
Whenever possible the police try to spin things in their favor and this demolition was no different. The barricades were emblazoned with NYPD logos, a stage was set up with two NYPD vans parked behind it for an ambiance of theatrics wasn’t really necessary or appropriate.
The Commissioner joked about the Indy 500, waved a checkered flag and told the bulldozer operators to “start their engines”.
Illegal bikes, are they serious?
What is it about an inanimate object that makes it illegal? I never understood how ownership could be a crime, unless of course you live in a highly evolved and accepted police state where peaceful human behavior has been turned into criminal action through aggressive legislation of our self-ownership.
Riding without a helmet while irresponsible only places the rider at risk and isn’t an action with any ill will or malice directed at another person. It might be a comfort issue or simply a personal choice, regardless it’s not a good reason to steal their vehicle and destroy it.
If you wouldn’t personally go to that person’s house, take their bike and try to crush it after seeing them ride without a helmet. Why would you advocate that state thugs do the same? Is it because the idea that a group of armed men will do violence on your behalf with a simple phone call adds a certain sense of comfort to your life? Or is it because the action hasn’t actually victimized you and is only a minor annoyance not worth expending energy or risking physical harm over?
If the idea of an institution organized for violence against your family, friends and neighbors make you feel secure; you should reevaluate who you have placed your trust in to keep your family safe and protect your property. The police are now responsible for more theft than gangs and kill an average of three people a day; since 9/11 the police have killed more Americans than any terrorist threat in the middle east.
If you are already on the opposite side of the paradigm and understand that another persons irresponsibility or reckless behavior does not always constitute a crime and criminalizing people for actions such as, riding without a helmet or customizing their vehicles with aftermarket parts does more to enable a police state than it does to keep people safe.
Why are the police unable to understand that without a victim there can be no crime? The answer is quite simple, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!” – Uptain Sinclair
