Footage released by an Israeli rights group showed Israeli soldiers firing a stun grenade at a Palestinian couple carrying a baby, Anadolu Agency reports.
The incident took place in the West Bank village of Burin near Nablus on Friday, according to Yesh Din organisation on Saturday.
Yesh Din said several Israeli soldiers arrived at the outskirts of the village and fired teargas and stun grenades at Palestinian youth gathering in the area.
“At least one teargas grenade fell inside one of the houses, where residents began to suffer gas inhalation,” the organisation said in a statement.
A video released by the organization showed a Palestinian couple running away with the father carrying an infant while Israeli soldiers fired a stun grenade at them.
Israeli police, for its part, said the soldiers were attempting to disperse rioters in the area.
“The Palestinian fled the scene with his back to the Israeli force and they therefore could not see he was carrying a baby,” it said.
The Palestinian territories have remained tense since US President Donald Trump officially recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December 6.
The move has triggered world outcry and protests in the Palestinian territories that left dozens of Palestinians dead.
Jerusalem remains at the heart of the decades-long Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem — now occupied by Israel — might eventually serve as capital of an independent Palestinian state.
