Fulham Prison in Victoria’s east is in lockdown and interstate guards are being brought in to break up industrial action under way at the Sale jail.
Warders at Fulham imposed a work ban related to the minimum staff levels in the jail and were locked out by prison authorities.
Andrew Peacock of the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) said there was riot at the jail in January when the lives of four warders were threatened.
“They haven’t learnt anything,” Mr Peacock said, referring the company GEO, which runs the prison.
“If we continue to implement the bans, (the prison guards) will be denied entry.”
He said warders from interstate were flying in to run the prison in case the industrial action for better wages and conditions worsened.
“We’ll just have to wait and see what happens tomorrow but we didn’t think they would go so hard so early,” Mr Capp told AAP.
Fulham Prison is a campus-style prison with about 800 inmates and 200 guards.
