Victorian ban to stop jailed court pests

The Victorian government is drafting changes to stop vexatious litigants such as jailed murderer Julian Knight from bringing cases before the courts.

The Herald Sun says Knight and other notorious criminals such as Craig Minogue, Greg Brazel and Hugo Rich have racked up legal fees of almost $600,000 over the past decade.

It says Attorney-General Robert Clark will move to curtail prisoners’ rights to launch frivolous cases that are paid for out of the public purse.

Mr Clark said in some cases the state was forced to pay huge legal bills to fight ridiculous cases so they did not lose and cost taxpayers more.
