Victorian police have seized $3.7 million in cash along with guns and drugs in a blitz on drug networks in Melbourne this week.
The cash haul, the biggest in the force’s history, showed the effectiveness of the forces targeting of organised crime, said Acting Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer.
“Drugs, cash and guns are the hallmarks of organised crime …. and we are certainly committed to creating a very hostile environment for organised crime in Victoria,” Mr Fryer said.
Also seized in the raid were drugs with a value in excess of $17 million and two handguns.
Mr Fryer said it took police about 15 hours to count the cash, which was mostly in $50 and $100 notes.
He said the drugs discovered in the raids were of very high quality.
Police are yet to provide details of any arrests.
