A woman in her 60s is fighting for life after being hit by a garbage truck in suburban Melbourne.
The 66-year-old woman was crossing the road to visit her mother in a nursing home when she was run over by the truck at Macleod, about 11.15am (AEDT) on Wednesday, paramedics said.
Police investigating the cause of the crash say it appears the woman failed to see the truck and stepped in front of it.
Ambulance Victoria team manager Ron McLeod said the woman’s injuries included multiple leg fractures, serious injuries to her right hand and lacerations.
Mr McLeod said the woman was conscious while paramedics treated her at the scene.
She was then taken to The Alfred hospital where she is in a critical condition.
