Vic premier on trade mission to India

Six university vice-chancellors and TAFE bosses will be among around 300 delegates to accompany Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu on a trade mission to India this week.

The trade mission, including representatives from more than 220 companies and organisations, will begin in Delhi on Tuesday and also travel to Mumbai and Bangalore.

Mr Baillieu said he was keen to boost the state’s education business with India after it suffered a decline due to safety issues, visa changes and the high Australian dollar.

“What we have seen is that there has been a recovery in that recruitment, particularly from India and south Asia,” he said.

“We are going with a view to enhancing that opportunity and restoring and rebuilding and continuing to grow that relationship.” Other industries represented include food and beverage, professional services and tourism.

Mr Baillieu leaves for the six-day trade mission on Monday.
