Vic hospitals get $60m for equipment

VICTORIAN hospitals will receive $60 million in funding for medical equipment in the upcoming state budget.

Premier Denis Napthine said the money will provide for new medical equipment and infrastructure upgrades.

The funding in the May 7 budget will build on a $60 million funding allocation from last year.

The funds will ensure hospitals have access to the latest technology and provide for upgrades to hospital communication systems and switchboards, Dr Napthine said on Monday.

“(It will) ensure that our health services across the state have access to a pool of funds to buy that necessary piece of equipment, to upgrade that equipment and do those works that are necessary to make sure we’re on the cutting edge of delivering quality health services,” Dr Napthine said.

Last year’s funding helped equip hospitals with a CT scanner, digital X-ray rooms, heart lung bypass systems and gamma cameras, the government said.
