Venice landmark’s renovations investigated for breaking conservation rules

Under the law there are heavy penalties for those who “without authorisation demolish, remove, modify, restore or carry out works of any kind on sites of cultural heritage”.

The Alajmo brothers were not available for comment but Randolfi defended the renovations.

“Everything was done in co-operation with the (cultural) superintendency,” Randolfi said. “We simply redid the “basins” and the kitchen, nothing else was touched. After 35 years of work, and I have also worked a lot for the ministry of culture, this is the first time that something of this kind has happened to me.”
