Tehran, April 10, IRNA – Chairman of Center for Research Studies affiliated to Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati said on Sunday that Iran and Estonia are keen on promoting ties in all fields including political and economic cooperation as well as science and technology.
Velayati made the remarks in a meeting with the Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marina Kaljurand.
Velayati said that the two countries enjoy longstanding and excellent ties since the ancient times.
Referring to the Italian and European delegations’ visit to Iran, he said that the visits prepared the ground for boosting ties between Iran and European states.
As to the Syrian situation, he said that the main problem is interference of foreign states in Syria and extending support for Daesh and that Iran has from the beginning underlined that the countries should avoid meddling in the Syrian domestic affairs.
Criticizing certain European states for sending arms to the terrorists, Valayati said that now all the countries have reached the conclusion that fighting terrorism is imperative.
Kaljurand, for her part, said that despite ancient history of bilateral ties, they have not been promoted to higher levels.
‘I feel the ground is prepared to develop ties with Iran in light of the fruitful talks held in Tehran with Iranian officials,’ she said.
Referring to the upcoming visit to Tehran of EU foreign policy chief, she said that the visit will serve as a major step in line with boosting Iran-EU relations.
