Vatterott College Adds Wind Energy Training program at Wichita and Kansas City Campuses

New wind technician diploma programs added at Wichita and Kansas City campuses in response to growing demand for skilled workers in Midwest.

Wichita, KS (PRWEB) April 17, 2012

According to the American Wind Energy Association, wind-generating capacity in the United States grew thirty-nine (39) percent per year from 2004 to 2009, and is expected to grow more rapidly as demand for renewable energy increases. Additionally, wind farms are frequently located in the Midwest, Southwest and Northeast regions of the United States. In response, Vatterott College announces the addition of a Wind Technician Diploma Program at its campuses in Wichita, Kan., 8853 East 37th Street North, and Kansas City, Mo., 8955 E 38th Terrace.

Service technicians are responsible for maintenance, assembly, service, repair and operation of wind turbines, generators and related equipment. The Wind Energy training program at Vatterott is designed to prepare students with essential skills and knowledge needed to enter this field in an entry-level position.

“At Vatterott College we strive to offer our students degrees and programs that will provide good opportunities now and for the future,” said Michael Harris, Campus Director at the Wichita campus. “Wind energy production is making a difference in our country by providing clean and affordable energy while also diversifying agricultural economies. Public demand and the consistent growth in the industry suggest that certified wind technicians will continue to be in high demand.”

The Wind Energy training courses combines lecture and hands-on training to teach complex concepts related to electricity and mechanics. Students receive instruction from experienced professionals and take courses that cover technical mathematics, fundamental concepts of energy transfer, electrical systems, mechanical controls and hydraulic power. Students also learn practical skills through hands-on field trips simulating real work experiences. Graduates of the diploma program will fulfill state and Federal OSHA requirements, which include passing a climbing test of up to 300 feet.

The two new programs are in addition to the Wind Energy Technician diploma program offered at Vatterott College in Des Moines, Iowa, 7000 Fleur Drive., which welcomed its first class of students in July 2011.

Vatterott College is currently enrolling students for the Wind Technician Diploma Programs in Wichita, Kan. and Kansas City, Mo. Day and evening classes provide students with the flexibility to continue their education.
