‘US state legislators ease gun laws’

Last month, Oregon’s pro-gun legislators vetoed a bill aimed at banning guns on school grounds, which included K-12 schools, community colleges and universities.

According to a bill passed by the Kansas House, concealed-carry permit holders are allowed to carry their weapons into any public building that does not have “adequate security” such as metal detectors or security guards.

In South Dakota, lawmakers voted to get rid of concealed-carry permit requirements, which necessitate background check for receiving a permit, allowing any resident over 18 with a valid driver’s license to carry a concealed weapon.

Police officers are among the most outspoken critics of easing gun restrictions.

This is while in recent weeks, thousands of people have taken to the streets across the US in protest at the killing of Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012.

The suspected racial motivation and police handling of the case has sparked massive, nationwide protests in the US in recent weeks.
