‘US sponsors Syrian massacres’

“…The atrocities that were committed in Houla were committed, and this is confirmed by many independent reports, were committed by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) -the Self-proclaimed Free Syrian Army, which is supported by the US and the Western military alliance,” Michel Chossudovsky, professor at the Center for Research of Globalization in Montreal said during an interview with Press TV on Thursday.

Over 100 civilians were killed in a massacre in the western town of Houla on May 25.

Chossudovsky said that Washington supports terrorist entities blaming “the killings on the enemy, namely on the Syrian government”.

“I should mention and it’s very important, that this notion of a massive casualty producing event used for propaganda purposes namely killing civilians is something that is entrenched in US military doctrine since the1960s,” he added, pointing to the Operation Northwood in Cuba.

Meanwhile, US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland has predicted several other massacres in Syria and has reportedly even mentioned the locations where the massacres are supposed to take place.

On Thursday, the Syrian announced that a car bomb attack had been carried out in the vicinity of a major Shia shrine in the capital Damascus, leaving at least 10 people injured.

The latest attack in Damascus comes after UN Under Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Herve Ladsous said on June 12 the Syrian crisis could now be characterized as a civil war.

Criticizing the UN monitors chief Ladsous for his comments, the Syrian foreign ministry said on Wednesday that the country is facing ”an armed conflict to uproot terrorism” and denied reports of civil war.

“Talk of civil war in Syria is not consistent with reality… what is happening in Syria is a war against armed terrorist groups plotting against the future of the Syrian people,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters, but Damascus blames “outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
