Alwaght- The United States has reaffirmed its all-out support for Saudi Arabia’s brutal aggression on Yemen, which has so far left nearly 8,300 mostly civilians dead.US Secretary of State John Kerry made the remarks on Saturday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, after holding talks with his Saudi counterpart Adel al-Jubeir.
Kerry claimed that that Saudi regime’s decision to launch airstrikes in Yemen was aimed at dealing with the Ansarullah movement and al-Qaeda operatives in the impoverished Arab country.
Kerry further expressed concern about what he claimed was Iranian “interference” in other countries, including Yemen.
Saudi-led war on Yemen started in late March 2015 and so far the aggression has claimed the lives nearly 8,300 people and injured over 16,000 others. Most of the casualties are civilians especially women, children and the elderly.
The strikes have also taken a heavy toll on the impoverished country’s facilities and infrastructure, destroying many hospitals, mosques, schools, and factories.
Earlier this month, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he was “deeply concerned” about Saudi Arabia’s intensification of airstrikes in residential areas and on civilian buildings in the Yemeni capital and warned that Riyadh’s use of cluster bombs in Sana’a, may amount to a “war crime.”
Last week Yemeni army’s spokesman said the Saudi regime has managed to continue its brutal war on his country following the participation of Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom warplanes in airstrikes targeting civilians in the country.
Yemeni army spokesman Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman said on Thursday that the US, Britain and Israeli warplanes are directly involved in bombardment of Yemen since as Saudi pilots are unable to conduct sorties with modern warplanes.
