US police arrest six more 99-percenters

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the protesters were taken into custody after officers ordered a crowd of 99-percenters to leave Union Square Park in the lower Manhattan in an unusual move to close the park.

“They were warned to leave the park due to it being closed,” a NYPD spokesman said.

The spokesman claimed that no police or protesters were wounded in Wednesday’s clashes. Reports say books and other materials were also seized by police officers.

On Saturday, New York police arrested dozens of demonstrators when they attempted to re-occupy Zuccotti Park.

The protesters had gone there to mark the six-month anniversary of their protest movement.

US police have made about seven thousand arrests as part of their crackdown on the Occupy movement since last September.

The Occupy movement emerged after a group of people on September 17, 2011 rallied in New York’s financial district under the motto of ‘Occupy Wall Street,’ protesting corruption, poverty as well as social inequality in the US.
