‘US mulling joint raids on Pakistan’

Citing the US officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, The Associated Press reported on Friday that the attacks had been proposed months before.

US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta recently said his country is “extraordinarily dissatisfied with the effect that Pakistan has had on the Haqqanis.” US officials say they are frustrated with Pakistan’s failure to prevent the Haqqani network from attacking Americans in neighboring Afghanistan.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has also said, “There are several things that we’re asking the Pakistanis to do more of and better. Number one, they’ve got to do more about the safe havens inside their own country….”

The security situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan has severely deteriorated ever since the 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan under the pretext of ‘war on terror,’ with steadily growing terror attacks in both countries, leading to mostly civilian casualties.
