In a Saturday interview, Ralph Schoenman, an author and a political commentator, pointed to the trillions of dollars that Washington has “assigned for the Pentagon and for the military industrial complex and for the preparation of global theater wars.”

The analyst alluded to the US threats of wars against Iran and Syria as well as the wars in Africa and the military interventions in the Pacific region aimed at menacing China and Russia as some instances of Washington’s global militaristic agenda.

“The system is in terminal crisis, because of the fact that the financialization of capitalism has left, no longer, any basis for productive forces in the society at large,” he pointed out.

“They (the US statesmen) will pay for these wars with drastic austerity measures and destroying the social fabric for the most oppressed and impoverished in our society,” Schoenman added.

He lashed out at both Republican and Democratic politicians for “falling over each other to compete in expressing their commitment not only to Israel but towards aggressive war against all those who resist their designs.”

The comments come as the US has agreed to give Israel another USD 70 million in military assistance, adding to the USD 3 billion the United States had already pledged to provide this year.

On Friday, US President Barack Obama signed the United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012, ratified by the Congress, which provides more US taxpayer dollars to help Israel expand its Iron Dome short-range rocket defense system.

The representatives of the pro-Israeli lobby, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), and Israeli journalists were invited to the signing ceremony, which was held at the White House.

According to a White House fact sheet published on Friday, Obama said that “despite tough fiscal times,” he “fought for and secured full funding for Israel” in fiscal year 2012, including USD 3 billion in foreign military financing.

The fact sheet also said that Obama secured an additional USD 205 million in 2011 to set up the Iron Dome system.
