“We hope that such an apocalyptic scenario will not be realized,” he added.
“The statements from Washington which do not rule out a military solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis have caused serious worries in the Central Asian region,” Lukashevich said.
The US base, which is located at the airport in the capital Bishkek, is currently used as a transit center for Washington’s operations in Afghanistan.
Lukashevich added that the possibility of an attack against Iran and Tehran’s retaliation has caused worries in Central Asian countries.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambaev said in a Monday meeting with visiting US delegation, headed by Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Susan Elliot, that “no foreign troops” should remain at the country’s Manas airport after 2014.
The United States, Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program, using this pretext to impose sanctions against Iran and threaten the country with military attack.
Iran has refuted the allegations and promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.
