US-led soldier dies in south Afghanistan

The Western military alliance said in a statement that the soldier died of non-combat related injuries in the country’s south.

The alliance has not yet released further details regarding the soldier’s identity or the exact location of the incident.

On Sunday, a US-led troop was killed in clashes between Taliban militants and foreign and Afghan forces in the city of Jalalabad.

According to official figures released by the website icasualties.org, a total of 113 foreign soldiers have lost their lives in war-battered Afghanistan so far this year.

Despite the presence of tens of thousands of US-led forces in Afghanistan, insecurity continues to rise across the Asian country.

The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
