‘US, KSA back terrorist attacks in Syria’

Health minister says at least 27 people have been killed and more than 97 others injured in the bombings.

One of the blasts targeted the Syrian Air Force Intelligence Headquarters and the second hit a security police building, according to the Syrian state TV.

“Terrorists” have been blamed by the Syrian state TV for the blasts, but no further details have been released yet.

This is not the first time that the Syrian cities have been targeted by bomb attacks. Bombings in Damascus and other cities in the past few months have left scores of people dead.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Mohsen Saleh, professor at Lebanese University, to share his opinion on this issue.

The following is a transcript of the interview:

Press TV: Professor Saleh, when we look at the situation we see now just a couple of days ago there were massive rallies in Damascus and the country showing its support, the people showing its support for the government. And now just a couple of days later we see these bombings take place.

Who do you think first of all benefits the most from these bombings and what exactly do you think they are trying to accomplish?

Saleh: Well I guess some of the Arabs in the Persian Gulf specially the Qataris and the Saudis who were encouraging the international community to arm and to finance and to help the terrorists and the gangs whether in Homs or in Dara’a or in Idlib, now I guess they are escalating the situation and Riad al-Assad, what so-called the Syrian Free Army promised to hit Damascus or to make these explosions in Damascus.

And he promised of course the Qataris and the Saudis to attack Syria in the heart of Damascus and he did it.

I guess these terrorists are supported by of course first of all and foremost the United States who want to see Syria scattered and of course unstable and all these bloods you see on the TV by the hands of course of some terrorists, probably al-Qaeda and of course the Americans and the Saudis who are supporting this.

Press TV: Professor Saleh, now the free Syrian opposition that you just talked about, supposedly say that they want to liberate the Syrian people from Bashar al-Assad and talking about that they support the freedom of the people but if that is the case and if they are behind these latest bombings which once again has targeted residential areas, how do you put these two together? On the one hand saying that they support the Syrian people but at the same time killing more and more Syrians.

Saleh: Well that is the political breath of the American and the Saudis and the Qataris. They do not care about the civilians and they did not care in Iraq, they do not care now in Afghanistan and they do not care about the civilians, the Arabs, the Muslims and others also.

They do not care about them whether Christians or Muslims in Syria. Also they killed them in cold blood and they do not care about them in order to what so-called to kill the Syrians not to liberate them because they got the code, the symbolic code from the United States and the Saudis to do these explosions.

They think that they want to hurt the regime. Of course I guess the Americans who are the enemies of these people from Iran to Afghanistan to Baghdad and to Beirut also who have been head by the Americans and the Israelis of course they have the same, this is the same block- the Saudis and the Qataris and this al-Qaeda, the Wahhabis- they belong to the same idea of killing these people who defeated Israel.

That is what they want to do. They want to punish these people because they standstill, they really said to the Americans and to the Saudis our way, the resistance way will be the right way in order to liberate Palestine.

That is why they are punishing Syria and they tried to punish Lebanon and to punish every voice would be raised in order to liberate the situation here.

That is why the Qataris and the Turks and the Americans want to have this alliance with these gangs in order to say to Syria you should listen to us. You should not have a right decision, your decision; you cannot be independent without the Americans dictations.

And that is what the Americans do in Saudi Arabia, in Qatar, in Bahrain. They kill people in Bahrain as well as in Damascus.
