“Today, they (US and Israel), with the help of terrorists and regional dictators, want to take revenge on the Syrian nation for the 22- and 33-day war failures,” Jalili said in a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Tehran on Monday.
The US and Israel have long-standing enmity toward the Syrians, Jalili added.
The Israeli regime waged a 22-day Christmas war on the densely populated Gaza Strip in 2008, which left more than 1,400 Palestinians dead including at least 300 children.
The Gaza War saw Hamas preventing Tel Aviv from materializing its stated aim of destroying the Palestinian resistance movement.
Forces with the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah also defended Lebanon against Israeli invaders during the 33-Day War in 2006 and Tel Aviv was compelled to withdraw its troops without having achieved any of its objectives.
Jalili added that the world of Islam considers the US and the Zionist regime of Israel as its enemies.
“The Muslims will not accept that the US and Zionists are defending the rights of the people with the force of weapons and with the help of dictators and terrorist,” he said.
For his part, al-Muallem highlighted the deep-rooted and strategic ties between Tehran and Damascus, adding that the Syrian cities are now relatively calm and cleared of terrorists.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011, with demonstrations being held both against and in support of President Bashar al-Assad’s government.
The Syrian government says outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists are the driving factor behind the unrest and deadly violence while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the killings.
Damascus also says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country and the security forces have been given clear instructions not to harm civilians.
